The Gate-Stones of Lunestriel
The Aaenshi were among the original races that called Lunestriel their home before the arrival of the Dowmarii, which means “Portal-Born” in Ancient Lunerii. The Aaenshi are perhaps the oldest race originating from Lunestriel. But some contend that all the originating races, even the ancient Aaenshi, were not originally from Lunestriel but that they also descended from beyond the portals. Regardless, however, the Aaenshi are an ancient race and most consider them the oldest of the Lomarii, meaning “Lunar-Born” in Ancient Lunerii.
The Aaenshi are a race of medium-sized, bipedal foxes, well known for their deftness in the arcane and for their general cunning. They often stand anywhere from 5’6" to 6"6 feet tall and they weigh usually from 120 to 180lbs, meaning they are slightly thicker than an elf but slimmer than a human. Their heads are just as a foxes with beady eyes, triangular ears, and an elongated snout with whiskers. They have fur just like a fox, which occurs in nearly every shade from blue to red to white and back again. They reach maturity after 30 years and can live to be about 600 years old. However, they are careful about choosing a partner to spend their life with and almost never have more than two children.
The Aaenshi are a magically inclined people and at one time controlled a great empire which spanned much of Lunestriel. But as most empires do, their broke apart. Yet their influence remains. All across Lunestriel one may find cities, buildings, and all manner of architecture developed by the Aaenshi. The greater part of old manuscripts, books, and other writings are composed in Ancient Lunerii, a language created by the Aaenshi centuries ago. Even now the scholarly and more civilized world continues to use Lunerii in writings and in court. With such a heritage many Aaenshi feel superior to most other races in Lunestriel. Their large and sophisticated cities mock many of the other races’ cities. To them, their magical cities, are beacons of light.
