The Gate-Stones of Lunestriel
The Vor were among the original races that called Lunestriel their home before the arrival of the Dowmarii, which means “Portal-Born” in Ancient Lunerii. The Vor are of the Lomarii, meaning “Lunar-Born” in Ancient Lunerii. While the goblins and humans are relatively new to Lunestriel, the Vor are an old race.
These reptilian humanoids stand around 5’8" to 6’6" feet tall but weigh only 100 to 170 pounds. They had leathery wings, with spans of 7 to 9 feet, and soft, rubbery green skin, with white and gray spots. Their small, beady eyes were obsidian black. A vor’s head is flat and pointed, and dominated by a beak-like mouth. Though they can walk, they are flying creatures with a pair of thin, leathery transparent wings from wrist to hip. Vor have four-fingered apendages, including a partially opposable thumb. Their feet had three forward pointing toes and one behind. As their hands were attached to their wings, they could hold items while flying, but could not use them. Some were dexterous enough to operate items with their feet however. They reached maturity at 40 years and lived to be 200.
Vor are intelligent creatures, and highly independent. However, they coordinate well in groups. This is exemplified in their settlements, nestled in the tops of large forests of massive trees, where they can often be heard singing in harmony with one another several miles away. Those who hear the melodious songs find them to be quite enchanting. Vor are renowned for their ability to create a whistling type sound from the bones in their throat and head during flight which can create a huge number of unique notes. When the whole community contributes to the song, the resulting effect sounds like a marvelous orchestra.
Vor are odd creatures. Seemingly emotionless and inscrutable, they can be hard to read. They are not emotionless; they simply show little emotion in their speech and attitude. They greatly enjoy music however and highly respect those with musical talent. Because of their light-weight bone structure, most Vor are poor melee fighters. However, they are quite intelligent and many become powerful wizards. Others use their superb agility and flight to become talented finesse fighters.
