The Gate-Stones of Lunestriel
The Mon Calamari were among the original races that called Lunestriel their home before the arrival of the Dowmarii, which means “Portal-Born” in Ancient Lunerii. The Mon Calamari, or simply known as the Calamari, are of the Lomarii, meaning “Lunar-Born” in Ancient Lunerii. Like the Avians, they are an old race in Lunestriel.
These fish-like amphibious humanoids stand on average 5’0" to 6’2" feet tall and weigh 130 to 220 pounds. They vary in color, though a reddish-brown is most common, with other colors including blue, green, silver, and magenta. They have large, fish-like eyes which can move independently of each other. Their heads are large and dome-shaped. They are equally capable of breathing on land or in water, though breathing underwater is somewhat uncomfortable. They are able to swim to depths of 100 feet and need no time to decompress. Their hands are webbed and their palms have three suction-like cups. They have two long middle fingers, two short outer fingers and an opposable thumb. Their chins feature protusions called barbels that grow in number as they age. Their skin smells of salt and the sea, which gives them a distinct fishy smell. They live around 140 years.
Mon Calamari are a intelligent and creative race. They are slow to anger and have a remarkable ability to maintain concentration despite surrounding distractions. They are soft-spoken and quiet. They are also inquisitive, and many calamari become adventurers because they love exploration. Often idealistic, calamari are very determined and dedicated. To them, everything is a work of art. they are well-known for their organizational and tactical abilities. In combat they fight with tenacity and have fine leadership capabilities. However, with their fine skills come s a degree of pride that can often lead to the belittlement of others. They are often seen as arrogant and haughty.
