Gargoyle

Gargoyles are a younger race of the Lomarii, meaning “Lunar-Born”, having been in existence for only 1000 years or so. They were created by the Duros, a race now extinct, to serve as a race of soldiers and guardians against their enemies, the Cereans. However, the gargoyles rejected this role, due to the wicked nature of their masters. After disavowing the Duros, the gargoyles turned against them and helped the Cereans defeat them. However, while the Cereans were content to make peace with the Duros, the Gargoyles hated their former masters and utterly wiped them out. In the process, the Gargoyles learned the secret of their creation and now guard it jealously.

Frightening to look upon, gargoyles are intimidating creatures. They stand at 5’4" to 6’6" feet tall and weigh around 280 to 400 pounds. They are strong, durable, and surprisingly graceful for their size. However, they are not as intellectually adept as some other races. Gargoyles have bat or dragon-like wings; however, because of their weight gargoyles do not fly and can only glide. All gargoyles have some form of horns protruding from their head. They also have sharp claws on their hands and feet. Gargoyles have a thin tail that helps them balance their weight. Their skin is hard and tough. With bestial or beak-like faces, they are very intimidating. They range in complexion from pale gray, to bluish-purple, to a coal black. Their eyes are pupil-less and black. Gargoyles never die of old age, but the process of their creation is extremely slow. In addition, they mature slowly and thus they are not a fast-growing race.

Gargoyles are tough warriors and fighters. They are protective of their own. Most races are mistrustful of them and don’t view them favorably. Most other races see them as monsters or some sort of aberration. Because of this, gargoyles form clans and fiercely protect their territory. They are very careful to assert their independence, and never with to serve another race again. However, they are not evil, they simply fear and mistrust other races. They have a fondness for Cereans, however, which can be traced to their alliance against the Duros. Because they are constructed beings, they have no souls. Gargoyles are aware that they are different from the other races, but are confident that they are just like any other race in Lunestriel.
